Toddler Bedtime Must-have: Maisie Mouse Grobag

Hey mummies! If you are looking for an sleep-suit that will still fit your two year old – then I have got something to rave about.

I am currently obsessing over Lacie’s new Maisie Mouse Grobag. I always thought that once Lacie’s 18-24 month bag was too small then that would be the end of the Grobag, which has been a must-have for bedtime since Lacie went into her own cot. I love how they keep her warm, make her feel secure in bed, and most of all have become a massive part of her bedtime routine; once the Grobag is on – she knows that it’s time for bed.

  • Keeps Lacie secure – especially in the mornings. She’s never attempted to walk in her Grobag, so when it’s on and we’re ready books, it means she keeps still!
  • Fab pattern. Lacie loves showing me the mouse.
  • Will fit Lacie until she’s three years old!
  • Excellent value for money
  • Useful and versatile, and negates the need for copious amounts of baby sheets and blankets.

As you can see, I am a huge fan of Grobags and have kept all Lacie’s old bags, for bubba number two, which is due in July. For him, I will of course, stick to Grobag’s guidelines and won’t put him in one until he’s 8lbs 8, which by then, I’m guessing he will be in his own room. I am so much happier knowing my children sleep in Grobags, as they are so much safer than blankets. Has anyone else had visions of your child’s blanket raising over their face? Yes, me too!

The Grobag design also stops a baby from wriggling down into them so their face will never accidentally get covered during their sleep, and they are super comfortable for them, and allow your little one to move around during their sleep, without getting tangled. I’m a huge fan of anything that helps encourage a deep, comfortable sleep, so thanks Grobag, keep up the good work!

Getting ready for baby number two

Just a quick progress photo for week 18. I’ve definitely had a few heavy days this week and training hasn’t been so energetic but nows the time to listen to my body. I must admit, I’ve felt a bit flat training wise this week, so not much to report on it really. I’m still following Gideon’s plan from KX Life but listening to my body more this week; If I need longer rest periods or to lower the weight, so be it. I’m in the gym and to me that’s all that matters and I’m happy to still be training & enjoying it.

In between training, eating, sleeping, working & being mummy, I’ve also been trying to work out in my head how to get organised for bubba number two. I’m definitely not sending Lacie to nursery any earlier than I need too, I simply just love being with her, and this is time I’m never going to get back!

That being said, I will have both of them at home with me for eight or nine months, and I’m fully aware that there’s going to be hard days, especially when I’m tired, bubba is having a clingy day (I remember them well) and Lacie wants to play and have fun.

So what’s my plan?

1st things first is; Breast feeding
I will definitely breast feed bubba all the time mark, my husband, is on Paternity leave. After that, I plan to go to bottles. I just can’t see how I’m going to be able to be at home on my own with both of them and be feeding a baby. LaCie would feed for up to 45 minutes at a time and I’m not sure how this is going to work with Lacie needing my attention as well.

So I’ve got myself organised & got a Tommee Tippee steriliser (in black to match the kitchen) and some of their Closer to Nature Advanced Comfort Bottles. Giving a bottle to a newborn is alien to me (I fed Lacie for 9 months) so I wanted to find some that made it easy to latch on to, were BPA Free and stopped air bubbles during feeding, which may lead to colic and digestion issues. I’m sure they will be absolutely fine with the bottle, millions of babies do it, but I want feeding to be as stress-free as possible so I still have the nice time that I had with Lacie. I also like these bottles because of the soft, natural-feel silicone teat. This should make it easier to switch between the breast and bottle.

Workouts
I’m lucky that Lacie sleeps in until 8ish, which allows me to go down to my home gym & get an hours workout in before she wakes. I hope bubba will do the same, so I’ve got a Tommee Tippee Digital Video monitor, which will allow me to keep a close eye on the baby whilst I workout. The monitor still has great reception in my gym, thanks to the 300m range & it has a two-way talk button option that allows me to talk to the bubba if he/she needs comforting or just needs to hear my voice as I make my way up to their room. I know this all sounds very far fetched as I just don’t know what type of baby and sleeper it’s going to be, but having a plan in my head about how I’m going to get back in shape makes me feel in control just a little. Lacie used to come into the gym with me when she was a baby so if that’s what happens with this one then that’s fine, but I will hopefully get it in to the same routine as I’ve got Lacie into. It took lots of patience, but we got there.

The monitor also comes with a temperature room display, remote nightlight and a detachable sensor pad that fits under your baby’s mattress and sounds an alarm if no movement is detected after 20 seconds.

Prams?
So my My next thing to thing about is a pram/buggy board/double buggy, so if anyone has any suggestions of how to get out and about with two, please send your suggestions. Lacie will be two-and-a-half once bubba is here and although she likes walking – she can’t quite manage the walk into town, an hours class, or whatever activity we are doing that day, and then a walk back! Help!!!

A little workout for you to try
To finish off, here’s a quick 12-minute circuit that I tagged onto the end of my workout today. Was great fun and got my heart-rate up nicely….
* 45 seconds kettlebell swings
* 15 seconds rest
* 45 seconds Squat to front kick
* 15 seconds rest
* 45 seconds side plank – right side
* 15 seconds rest
* 45 seconds side plank – left side
* 15 seconds rest
Repeat three times through as a continuous circuit.

As always don’t forget to check with your mid-wife and GP when exercising when pregnant – and listen to your body!!!!

Top Xmas Gifts by Fisher Price

With Xmas just around the corner, buying gifts is on everyones mind. I like to be organised and get my done by mid-December. I love buying for my friends kiddies, my nieces and nephews and of course, Lacie. Going through the Argos catalogue and writing my list (with page numbers and pictures, of course) was just so exciting when I was little – oh, it still is!!

Now Lacie loves playing real life games, she is loving this Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Purse (RRP £19.99). It comes with a mirror, some keys, a phone, a credit card and a bracelet, just like Mummy!

Screen Shot 2015-11-20 at 13.20.46

It sings too – infact there are over 50 sing-along songs, words and phrases, which Lacie likes to repeat – she really is a little parrot these days, plus interactive shape buttons on the front, which when pressed say the shape names, numbers and colours – in in English and FRENCH!

There are a few little girls that I know will love this this year, so I’ll be stocking up on a few of these.

Me and Lacie tend to play on the level 3 setting at the moment, which is for 18 months and up and encourages fun and early role play. She likes nothing more than putting all the accessories in the bag, popping it on her shoulder and telling me she’s going to work. Not yet baby, please!!

Level 1 Explore is a great setting for 6 months and up, which introduces those first words and level 2 for 12 months and up which asks questions and gives simple directions.

She’s  also been enjoying making Mummy tea & cake (I wish!) with her new Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Smart Stages tea set (RRP £19).  The set consists of a jolly tea-pot, two cups, and a three tiered cake on a plate. All the pieces in the set are brightly coloured and durable plastic, perfect for her little hands; not too small or clunky.

Like the purse, the teapot has a front display with three settings, which you set according to your child’s age and ability. Lacie is now 22 months, so again, we are on level 3 and playing real games. I particularly like the game where we use manners – and we say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ as we make and sip our tea. The odd ‘cheers’ creeps in too, which is pretty funny!

I love the catchy little tunes the teapot sings, which is great for repetition and learning – and Lacie loves the pouring noise the teapot makes when she’s serving up. It’s all very realistic, and the kettle lights up too!

You can buy both, the Smart Stages purse– a fab baby learning toy  and the toy tea set online.

Review – The Fisher Price Bright Beats Dance & Move BeatBo

Let’s dance. Let’s sing. Let’s learn to count! Yes, the new Fisher Price Bright Beats Dance & Move BeatBo does all this. It’s so much fun!

I don’t know about you, but I can get really bored of children’s toys. Lacie doesn’t, but I do, so when the postman knocked on the door with this big box of entertainment, I couldn’t wait to crack it open. Lacie was asleep, so I literarily had to sit on my hands!

The Fisher Price BeatBo is the latest educational toy from Fisher Price, and aimed at toddlers aged 9-36 months. It offers three incredible modes to play and learn for little people: Dance ’n Move, Learning & Games, and Customised Sing-Along.

Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 13.25.15

We played with our fun looking robot as soon as she woke, and what with it being a dull and rainy day, we kept the lights off and took full advantage of the flashing lights on its large, multi-colour LED grid tummy.

First of all, we explored the musical  button on his foot – the first button of three. We had a ‘dance party’ were we clapped to his instructions, and jumped up and glided. Lacie did the moves, whilst the BeatBo shook his head from side to side – and wiggled. Very funny! She found it hilarious.

Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 13.27.56

Next we played with the ‘123’ button and sang about colours and the ABC. So far the ABC dance has to be my favourite. It’s really catchy and Lacie has already grasped the first verse. The only thing I hate has to be the fact that I wake up in the night singing the song. These baby songs are so catchy – ahhh!

You can also press BeatBo’s tummy for more catchy tunes and learning phrases and record your own phrase that the baby toy then remix’s into his favourite song. A great way to repeat a word or phase that you’re little one is trying to learn without sounding like an obsessed mother – or a broken record!

Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 13.29.52

So in more detail:

BeatBo’s fun and energising music encourages baby to move around.

By pressing his tummy, or one of the buttons on his feet you can play learning songs and games, which introduces your child to ABCs, colours, counting and instructions like jumping, clapping and ‘shaking it up’.

The music, songs, phrases, lights and bright colours helps strengthen your child’s gross and fine motor skills, which aslo help give baby’s senses a boost.

and

the different songs, phases and beats that the BeatBo plays each time you press a button encourages curiosity and discovery. There are around 50 phases all in all – I’m not bored yet!

Baby Perfume – L’Odeur

It’s never to early to be girlie. That’s my opinion anyway. Lacie is a real girlie girl. I love dressing her in lovely dresses and cardigans (I just love the Baby K Range in Mothercare) and she always wears a matching hairband. How people still ask if she’s a boy is beyond me?

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 14.32.33

My husband laughed when I said I got her some perfume, but you can’t beat that fresh baby smell right? Which is exactly what L’Odeur smells like. It’s lovely. It’s very light and designed to compliment and enhance that new baby smell. It’s also Alcohol free, and dermatologically tested so it’s gentle on Lacie’s skin – although I only tend to spray it on her clothes the morning before she puts them on. I have yet to spray it directly on to her.

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 14.29.59

I love it when someone has that signature smell – and she definitely has one now. Her clothes smell gorgeous – a combination of verbena, orange blossom, and muse. That’s my girl!

Lacie’s Magic Door – redecorating her playroom

Life has been some-what hectic the last month or so. We was going to move house – but it all fell through due to a history of subsidence on the new house. So we decided to stay put and just jazz up our current house. It has three bedrooms, so really with just the three of us, we don’t need much more room.

One thing we did decide to do was make one of our reception rooms into a playroom for Lacie. We had a totally blank canvas so deciding what to do in there was tough, but we came up with a solution and decided to build in cupboards as storage for all her toys and make it a fun, colourful room, which she could enjoy now and for many years to come.

Here’s what we did;
Screen Shot 2014-08-25 at 17.34.42

You can see that we painted the walls a subtle pink colour and then we brought some grass wall stickers to put all around the room. We then added some 3D butterflies and brought this amazing grass carpet, which feels and looks like grass – and is really soft.
Screen Shot 2014-08-25 at 17.34.16

The best bit about the room has to be The Fairy door, which sits just above the skirting board. We got it from The Magic Door store and just love it. I think its going to be a great way to tell stories when Lacie is older, telling her that the fairies only come out at night – and If she is really good, then they may leave the odd note and present – and of course leave a bit fairy dust on the carpet as they come and go.
Screen Shot 2014-08-25 at 17.36.49

I’m so fond of the Fairy Door, that I’ve arranged a competition for one of my lucky followers on Twitter to win one. All you need to do is foliow me and the Magic Door Store and then RT my post about the competition. The winner can be from anywhere in the world and can choose one fairy door or elf door of their choice.

The doors are really easy to fit (they come with some putty to help you attach it to your wall) and come with a small bottle of Magic Dust and a welcome note for the fairies.

As I said, I’m so excited to have one of these in Lacie’s room (I’m probably more excited than she is at the moment!) Just imagine her excitement when she discovers tiny magic dust footprints on the floor and little gifts and messages left especially by a magical fairy!

Newborn swimming lessons at Virgin Active

As soon as Lacie had her first set of injections we were in the pool like a shot.
I’ve never been a keen swimmer so it’s important that we get Lacie as comfortable in the water as soon as possible. It’s also important for me to learn how to confidently hold her and play with her in the water, which is why we signed up to the Ducklings Programme at Virgin Active.

The 18-week programme are primarily designed to introduce very young children to the water so I signed up straight away and got my NCT friends to sign up too. There are four of us in the class and we are all friends which is great. It’s lovely seeing them every week and Lacie gets to learn new skills with her friends which is lovely. Hopefully one day they will all go swimming together and play nicely and confidently in the water.

So far we’ve only had two lessons but I’m so much more confident with her already. We’ve been taught how to get in the water safely with a new born, how to hold them so they can swim on their front and back, and we’ve already submerged them. Lacie wasn’t bothered at all as she went under. What a proud mum!!

A few little tips I’ve learnt already is;
* To take the carseat. This means I can get Lacie changed then pop her in the car-seat as I get myself changed too.
I have the Nuna Pipa seat, which I love.  You can read my review here…..

Screen Shot 2014-05-02 at 17.37.42* I’ve also learnt to take a spare towel. One for Lacie as she gets out the pool and then one to dry her with. I didn’t do this the first time we went and had to use my towel to dry her. I recently brought this poncho, (£11.99; http://www.mothercare.com) which Lacie loves to snuggle up to as soon as she gets out the pool. It has a hood that keeps her head warm and its made with soft cotton fabric that wicks excess water and dries Lacie really quickly.

Screen Shot 2014-05-02 at 17.23.54

* Lastly I always dress Lacie in a super cool swimming costume. She looks super cute and as she’s the only girl in the class I like her to look extra girlie. I get her swimsuits from Mothercare. Here my three favourites. We will take them on our first family holiday too.

1)Whale Swimsuit; £9
I love the frill detail around the waist and neckline. The turquoise colour is just lovely too!

lacie whale

Baby K Swimsuit and Turban; £15
This cute cozy from the Baby K range has a matching turban, which is very 80’s – she hasn’t worn the turban yet but it will be great on holiday when it comes to protecting her hear from the sun.

Bbay K swim suit

Lastly this Disney Minnie Mouse Swimsuit; £9
is just adorable. I’m sure Lacie is going to be a big fan of Minnie Mouse when she’s older and I just love the frilly sleeves and waist line. It looks so sweet on.

Screen Shot 2014-05-02 at 17.58.10

I tend to wear a Tankini in the pool, which is really easy to get changed in and out of but recently I came across the new Speedo Sculpture range, which smoothes and supports your body in all the right places.
I love the Crystalsun suit (£60; http://www.store.speedo.co.uk) , which gives me flattering and feminine shape, thanks to the bandeau shape neckline, which enhances my tiny bust, an the lower leg, which elongates my short body. The gentle gathers are also perfect for visually disguising any post-pregnancy lumps and bumps. Its not easy getting into the pool after you’ve had a baby, I felt very self-conscious.

Screen Shot 2014-05-02 at 18.03.21

To sign up to baby swimming lessons have a chat to your nearest Virgin Active. They are super helpful and will make sure your little one goes into the right class for the age and ability level.

How to fight the Rotavirus

When Lacie had her eight week jabs, she also was immunised against Rotavirus.

The immunisation is an oral vaccination and basically protects them from a highly infectious stomach bug that can cause an unpleasant bout of diarrhoea, sometimes with vomiting, tummy ache and fever. The problem is, they obviously give her a small dose of the virus, so it’s vital that for the next three weeks, me and mark wash our hands after every nappy change and don’t suck her dummy when it needs carrying or cleaning. Basically because the vaccine is given to your baby by mouth, it’s possible that the virus in the vaccine will pass through your baby’s gut and be picked up by whoever changes their nappy. It could also be on her dummy, so sterilisation is vital over the next few weeks.

Thankfully, I came across this Milton Mini Portable Soother Steriliser and it has come in really handy ever since.

Screen Shot 2014-04-02 at 21.37.29

Basically, the cleaner allows you to sterilise dummies on the go, is compact and really easy to use. You  fill to line with water, dissolve a Milton tablet, insert the sponges and pour away any excess water. You’re then ready to go and can sterilise as many dummies as you wish for 24hrs! The sterilising process takes less than 15 minutes and is made by a brand that I really trust. I never leave the house without it. I can’t tell you how many times we have dropped her dummy – or I’ve found it in my 2-year old Nephew’s mouth. Cheeky little monkey!

Pregnancy countdown – 38 days to go and I had to get…..

Image

Like most, I’m not good without my sleep. And I know that once baby is here, the first few weeks will be tough. Waking up every few hours is guaranteed but hey, that’s the one of the joy’s of having a new born and I wouldn’t expect any different.

I was blown away by this cool little toy though. Ewan The Dream Sheep not only looks adorable, but it’s cool little features like playing womb and heartbeat sounds which mimics what they heard from the womb is said to help sooth your little one and help them settle.

It also has three other noises including classical music and white noise and it gently lights up a pinky colour, which according to research has been to mimic certain aspects of the womb and be extremely comforting.

I’ve only heard good things about Ewan and CAN’T wait to give him to my baby girl. He is so soft and most impressively the heartbeat and womb sounds that he plays are actual recordings, not computer generated, which should help her with the transition from womb to big wide world. These sounds have also been trialled on different babies and toddlers to find the most effective ones to aid sleep.

Ewan will without doubt be in my hospital bag – the sooner I introduce her to him the better. I can’t wait!

Babyshower Gifts – part one

Baby shower gifts can be hard to buy. Do you go practical or cute?

To help you select the best gifts I searched high and low to help you find cute and practical.

Now I have to warn you, that they are mainly pink, BUT I am having a girl, so you can’t blame me for having my pink hat on!

WELEDA MINI CALENDULA BABY GIFT SET; £12.95
This cute little packet of baby products is 100% natural, providing your baby with gentle, caring ingredients including calendula to soothe your babies skin and antiseptic properties that prevent against infection to nurture your infant inside and out.
Inside there is Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash, Calendula Facial Cream , Calendula Baby Oil , Calendula Nappy Change Cream and Calendula Baby Lotion.
They all smell lovely but aren’t overpowering and come in a handy travel pack that fits nicely into a nappy bag or bathroom cabinet – although – I wouldn’t have them hidden away. It’s nice to have them on display and remind yourself how precious and special your baby is.

Image

The iconic Forever Friends Bear; £10
This soft little bear is the perfect accessory to a nursery. It’s not too big, not too small and has the cutest polka dot pattern on the feet and bow tie. I remember loving Forever Friends as a kid. Long live the legacy.

Image

Bonnie baby London Cashmere Playsuit ‘SNUGGLE ME CLOUD’; £74.75
I just fell in love with this Cashmere Babysuit as soon as I saw it. It’s so soft and the cloud pattern is really sweet. There’s nothing like a cozy baby dressed in the softest material around. I can imagine that baby would get a lot of use out of this, so yes it may seem expensive but quality is so much better than quantity when it comes to a baby’s comfort. Don’t you think?

Image

Graces Favours Poppy Felt Shoes; £25
Ok, so they’re not pink, but still so pretty all the same. I love that you can take the poppies off really easily and that they are so soft, which makes them ideal for a newborns feet. You don’t want anything too structured or rigid to start with. All the products on the website are handmade, which makes them extra special and they are a really reasonable price too.
